The First Train
50 years to the day since our first train steamed out of Havenstreet Station, join us to celebrate our 50th birthday!
In 1971 our railway was an altogether simpler affair - just the platform and station building at Havenstreet, and a couple of miles of weed-strewn track. Almost all the facilities that you see today have been added over the last 50 years.
On 12 April 1971, W24 Calbourne, then the line's only locomotive, and her train of three carriages, puffed their merry way one mile from Havenstreet to Woodhouse Crossing, half-way to Wootton.
On 12 April 2021, we'll be recreating this train with the original carriages and locomotive.
