Men and women across all departments of the Railway joined the procession in this year’s Ryde Main Carnival with their floral tribute to their flagship locomotive No.24 Calbourne to highlight the need for volunteers to keep the Heritage Museum running.
The Mayor of Ryde Malcolm Ross presented the cup in front of No.24 Calbourne on the platform at Havenstreet.
IWSR Administrator Di Hollander said, “This is the fun side of the job but with a serious message. The importance of new blood in our organisation in the form of volunteers cannot be stressed enough. Our floral tribute took many hours of work by a dedicated group of people and was a toe in the water to showcase our organisation within the ever-popular Carnival arena to residents and visitors alike. We would like to thank Ryde Carnival Association for this award which has spurred us on to build something bigger and better for next year.”
