Getting to the railway by Car

Please head to our main station at Havenstreet where there is a large FREE car park with spaces for cars, motorcycles, motorhomes and coaches. We also have two charging points for electric vehicles.

Enter PO33 4DS into your Satnav or head for Havenstreet (3 miles from Ryde and 3 miles from Newport) and look for road signs to Havenstreet or brown signs showing the Steam Railway.

Please note that there is no vehicle or pedestrian access to Smallbook Junction station.

Getting to the railway by bus

Havenstreet station is not served by a public bus service. Wootton station is served by the No 9 bus between Newport and Ryde (via Staplers). Alight at Wootton station for trains to Havenstreet.

Getting to the railway by train

Board Island Line services from Ryde, Brading, Sandown, Lake or Shanklin, taking you directly to Smallbrook Junction station. Here its a simple cross-platform connection to the Steam Railway.

PLEASE NOTE: Island Line trains are not running to Smallbrook Junction until Autumn 2021 while upgrade works take place. See details of replacement buses from Ryde to Havenstreet HERE

Travelling from the mainland

Getting to the Isle of Wight is easy, just a short ferry ride from Portsmouth, Southampton or Lymington marks the beginning of your adventure.

By Hovercraft from Southsea: Cross the Solent by Hovercraft from Southsea to Ryde. Currently there are no Island Line trains to Smallbrook Junction whilst upgrade work is taking place. During this period a connecting bus will operate between Ryde Esplanade bus station (just across the footbridge from the hovercraft terminal) and our station at Havenstreet offering a direct connection for mainland visitors. Buses run every day when trains are operating at the Isle of Wight Steam Railway – see further details HERE.

 

By Fast Cat from Portsmouth Harbour: Cross the Solent by Fast Cat from Portsmouth Harbour to Ryde Pier Head. Currently there are no Island Line trains to Smallbrook Junction whilst upgrade work is taking place. During this period a connecting bus will operate between Ryde Esplanade bus station (a 5 minute walk along the pier) and our station at Havenstreet offering a direct connection for mainland visitors. Buses run every day when trains are operating at the Isle of Wight Steam Railway – see further details HERE.
