New for 2021
In March, Race the Train challenges runners to complete the 5km course from Wootton to Smallbrook before our steam train. In July we welcome the Island Highland Gathering with hundreds of pipers and dancers bringing the music of Scotland to the Isle of Wight. In September the music, fashion and trains of the 1960s come to Havenstreet. Our Sixties Weekend promises to be colourful flashback to this memorable decade.
Celebrating 50 years
2021 sees the return of our most popular events. We start the year with our Last Train in January, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the day when our pioneering enthusiasts moved our precious rolling stock from Newport to Havenstreet. A few months later we’ll be back for the First Train, 50 years to the day since our first trains ran at Havenstreet. A highlight of our year will be our 50th anniversary gala; a celebrations of all things steam, featuring a special guest locomotive.
Fun for all the Family
NEW for 2021 is our Young Engineers Day in April. Join author Chris Vine as he brings his passion for all things engineering to the Island of Wight. The Railway Folk make a welcome return in June, bringing their usual mix of fun and chaos to Havenstreet. At Easter we’re all set for the Great Railway Easter Hunt. Look for the clues around the station as you track down your own chocolate Easter chick.
Return of Popular Events
2021 sees the return of our most popular events. Look our for our Festival of Transport in May, the 1940s Experience in July, and our Annual Steam Show in August.
Celebrating the Island’s railway heritage
Our Island Heritage Train Days take place generally on the third Sunday of every month. Look out for our two Island heritage engines W24 Calbourne and W11 Newport hauling a variety of vintage trains. As part of our 50th anniversary celebrations we’re also offering the opportunity to walk the island’s disused railways including Shanklin to Ventnor and Newport to Sandown.
