Volunteers are the beating heart of our Railway. Our 400+ volunteers play a crucial role in looking after our visitors, maintaining our locomotives, carriages, stations and track in great condition, and operating the railway safely.

Assist in the locomotive workshop with the ability to work hands on, undertaking practical tasks.
Many of our volunteering roles involve meeting our visitors. There’s great satisfaction in welcoming people to the Railway, sharing their enthusiasm, and helping them get the most from their day. Behind the scenes other volunteers are involved with the restoration of our locomotives and carriages, or looking after our track and stations. Some volunteers enjoy putting their experience to good use, whilst others love learning new skills that may be completely different to their regular day job.
