Volunteer at the Railway

Volunteers are the beating heart of our Railway. Our 400+ volunteers play a crucial role in looking after our visitors, maintaining our locomotives, carriages, stations and track in great condition, and operating the railway safely.

Whilst many of our volunteers have an interest in railways, others get involved because they enjoy meeting our visitors and working alongside other volunteers.

Some of our volunteers have retired from full-time work and are seeking new ways to keep active and use their skills. Other spend time at the Railway at weekends or during holiday periods, and enjoy doing something completely different to their day job. We also welcome younger volunteers, generally from the age of 14, who can gain valuable life skill and experience – something really positive to add to their CV.

In this section of the website you can find out more about what’s involved and how you can join in. If you have any questions about volunteering, please contact our volunteer co-ordinators at [email protected] who we’ll be happy to assist.
