A good day out for steamheads Every time I visit the IOW, I go for a ride on this railway. It is a lovely ride, and the facilities at Wootton are excellent; it makes for a good day out. Since my last visit, they have introduced a railcar ride which basically runs the line, same as the steam locomotive. I didn't have time to try this method, just taking the steam train. I must admit that when I go, I take the 1st class option because you get a compartment to yourself, and you can flit from side to side to take in all the views, not just on one side. At Wootton, the facilities are excellent. The Barn for drinks and light snacks, the birds of prey centre, the railway workshops, and of course the gift shop. Love it all! We went as a family with children on Halloween and there was so much todo for the children, broom and wand making to watching magic shows and meeting owls. There was even best dressed competition and a Halloween trail to find all the cauldrons which were not just at this station but at either end of the journey, children got to step of the train and find the missing cauldrons before jumping back on the train. Thank you so much for an unforgettable day. Tara F2024-11-02 A real gem What a amazing place staff are all friendly and clearly enjoy what they do and have 1st class knowledge. The train story museum is awesome and the train rides were top notch great day out and great value Mark2024-10-28 Good fun day out for the steam experience What a great experience just getting to the Steam Train railway getting on the main line train at Shankling and getting off and the right station for a connecting ride to the steam centre the staff were so helpful on the day and took time to explain what was going on at the museum lots to see and do all in cost tickets valid all day on the main line so you could hop on and off best of both worlds. The food was a bit overpriced in the restaurant on-site but was edible. a good fun day out even though it was raining on and off all day would recommend it. £24.00 all-day tickets steam and main line. Loads to do well worth a visit john2024-10-10 What a grand day out What a brilliant day, from parking up, to booking tickets. The staff were helpful and kind.Accessibility was first class. The museums and displays were again first class with books for the very few areas that were hard to get to.The restaurant was very good food at reasonable prices. The trip in a vintage carriage pulled by an ex-Army loco was again great the helped our wheelchair user up on and off the accessible carriage. I have been to a lot of heritage railways this one is near the topconsidering it was started by a couple of 15-year-olds.I couldn't fault it at all highly recommend it lots of car parking. John M2024-09-26 IOW Steam Railway Totaly disapointed in the Isle of Wight Steam Railway not being open in the week in September especially on a Friday with in the late Holiday Season with loads of cars and late Holiday Makers comming over to the Island on the Ferries. On the Friday we visited only to find it closed, a Father had paid for a special wheel chair accesable Taxi to bring him to the Railway and when he had unloaded his son and wheel chair and the Taxi had left he then went to the Railway Ticket Office only to find the Railway closed and had to phone for another Taxi to pick them up again, he was not happy to say the least.
